The Cana Miracle

In John 2:1-11 Jesus "and his disciples" attend a wedding where he performs the first of his miracles. He has servants pour water into jugs and then draw from one of the jugs to give to the chief steward, who praises it as fine wine. In the fresco we see Jesus gesturing to what must have been the jugs before the fresco started to flake. On his left stands the chief steward. The other men, twelve in number, are presumably the disciples.

The man on Jesus' right may be St. Peter, judging from the square beard and the bald top of his head. On Jesus' left is a man in Mass vestments, suggesting the relation between the transformation of the water at Cana and the transformation of the wine at every Christian altar.
